Fact 1: There are two types of camels: The Dromedary or Arabic Camel, and it has one hump. The other type is Bactrian, or the two-humped camel. The height of the camel at the shoulder is between 1.8 meters and 2 meters. It weighs between 250 and 680 kilograms. Its tail is about 50 centimeters long.

Fact 2: Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had a female camel called "Al Qaswaa'". Abu Bakr Al Siddeeq (ra) gave it to him, but he (pbuh) refused to have it for free, so he bought it. Al Quswaa' was also the camel that sat down where there were two orphaned boys, which later, that place, became Al Masjid Al Nabawi.

Fact 3: ALLAH (swt) has mentioned the camel in more than one verse in The Holy Qur'an. The camel was prophet Saaleh's (pbuh) miracle.

Fact 4: Camels carry their food in their humps. They contains quantities of food in the form of fat from which the hump swells, where the camel gets its energy from whenever there is no food available.

Fact 5: Camels feed on thorny plants, as well as leaves and dried herbs.

Fact 6: Arab camels can stay without food and drinks for eight days at 50°C. it can stay without water for 10 months if it is not being put to work and its food contains enough moisture.

Fact 7: Camels sometimes spit on their enemies by taking food out of their stomachs. So does the llamas.

Fact 8: Strong camels can carry weights of 230 - 270 kilograms and walk about 48 kilometers a day. Some of the two-humped camels may carry 450 kilograms of weight. Less strong Arabian camels are used for riding, not for transporting goods. A camel can sit and rise again while having a heavy weight on its back.

Fact 9: It is said that the camel originated from the north American continent, and then spread to South America and Asia.

Fact 10: A camel can close its nostrils because they are thin. The reason is to protect the camel from flying sand entering its nose. Itsts ears are also small for the same reason.

Fact 11: Camel wool is used to make tents, blankets, carpets, clothes, and ropes.

Fact 12: The way camels walk is by having two legs on one side going at one time. So its front left leg and its back left leg would walk forward, then the other two legs would do the same. In Arabic, people call the camel "the ship of the desert".

Fact 13: Camels have two fingers in each foot. A hoof-like toe nail grows in each finger.

Fact 14: Camels have a stomach that is divided into 3 chambers. The undigested food will go to one of those chambers. Later that food will go back up to the camel's mouth where it will chew it again, swallow it, then send it back to the other chambers until it's fully digested.

Fact 15: Camels can drink about 200 liters of water, and this amount is not stored in its body, but replaces the water that the body has already lost.

Fact 16: A camel's milk contains vitamin C that is 10 to 20 times more than that's in cow's milk. Studies showed that a camel's urine can be useful to humans. It hasn't yet been fully approved to be sold to the public until more studies are being done on it.
